Capturing Your Business Intelligence – The Dissemination of Knowledge
The responsibility for the planning of routes and delivery schedules usually sits with one or a very small handful of people within the Logistics organisation. Business knowledge about the various route schedules resides in the heads of a few individuals and in a lot of cases with the drivers themselves.
The process of mapping routes continues to be a labour intensive & manual and the over-reliance on any one individual to perform this mission critical task does put Logistics & Distribution companies in a very vulnerable position.
For example, something as simple as annual leave or sick leave can lead to a major disruption in operations. Even more catastrophic is the case when the individual decides to leave the organisation altogether where, not only, the route planning intelligence is lost from the business, but where such knowledge resides with drivers there is a high probability that customers will also be lost.
